Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley Welcomes Faculty to Teacher Institute Days

Teacher Institute Days is Underway  through August 29

August 2019

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you have been enjoying the “longest summer ever” while finding the time to rest and relax with family and friends! On behalf of the District 30 Board of Education and our administrative team, I am excited to kick off the 2019-20 school year and welcome our new staff members, who will join our talented faculty for the upcoming school year. District 30 exists to create a community that craves learning, fosters resiliency, and cares deeply for every child. Continuous improvement remains one of our core values.

I have been inspired by the dedicated efforts throughout the summer by members of the District 30 Family preparing for another outstanding school year. I feel fortunate to continue to work and serve the Northbrook/Glenview communities. Over 50 staff members participated in summer curriculum work. Content areas included but were not limited to, Science and Social-Emotional Learning for grades 6 through 8, Mathematics in grades K through 5, and World Languages acgrades 3 through 5.

I applaud our Board of Education for collaboratively setting goals that maintain focus on instructional practices and our facilities. Our District Time Study Committee efforts have generated elementary schedules with increased opportunities for teachers to meet in Professional Learning Teams that support our continuous improvement efforts. Our new innovative, flexible, state-of-the-art Maple School and its redesigned campus remain on schedule and within budget. Considering all the individuals who provided input into this facility and supported our construction, the new Maple School is genuinely a community accomplishment. We are thrilled for our students and staff to leverage this facility and our new flexible furniture across grades 3 through 8.

The agendas for August 27, 28, and 29 are enclosed. I am confident that you will find the mix of activities to be relevant and enjoyable. You are a thoughtful and talented group of professionals who accept responsibility for the growth of every child in our care. I have missed you all and look forward to working alongside you again this year. Please find time before you return to do something memorable for yourself. Enjoy the remaining days of summer!

Sincerely,

Dr. Brian K. Wegley
