Northbrook Maple Wrestlers Qualify for State Competition!

On March 7, the Northbrook Maple Wrestlers competed in the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) Sectional at Grayslake Middle School. The wrestlers listed below are eligible to compete at the IESA State Championship on March 13 and 14, at Northern Illinois University (NIU) in DeKalb, Illinois. However, due to recommendations of social distancing from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Illinois Department of Public Health, the IESA State Championship is canceled or postponed until further notice.

Each of these wrestlers is among the top 16 wrestlers out of thousands of wrestlers across the state in their individual weight classes.

65lbs. - Wood Oaks Junior High School student Niko Odiotti (3rd Place); one of only two 5th-graders to advance to the IESA State Championships. Niko and his brother, Massey, have also set a NEW program record for most IESA State Qualifiers by a family with 4 in total!

90lbs. - Maple School student Max Brown (2nd Place); Max is only the second wrestler in program history to be a three-time IESA State Qualifier.

Max is from Maple. His older brother Ryan wrestled with the team and is now at Glenbrook South High School. His two younger brothers are at Willowbrook School.

155lbs. - Northbrook Junior High School student Justin Jaimes (3rd Place); pinned his final two opponents to earn his trip to the IESA State Championship!

"We are proud of these IESA State Qualifiers!" said Coach and Maple Physical Education teacher Kitt Kopach.
