2016-2017 School Calendar Adopted

2016-2017 School Calendar Adopted

The 2016-2017 District 30 School Calendar was adopted by the District 30 Board of Education on Thursday, January 28, 2016. On the calendar page of the District 30 website is the approved calendar and a list of important 2016-2017 District 30 Calendar dates.

Please note that classes for students in first through eighth grade will begin Monday, August 22, which provides student attendance two full weeks prior to Labor Day. Kindergarten and pre-school students will meet with their teacher briefly on Monday, August 22. Kindergarten and pre-school students' first full day will be Tuesday, August 23.

Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley said, "Please note that we will begin attending school on Veterans Day next fall. Attending on this day allows each of our schools to host a Veterans Day program that will honor our veterans and their service to our country. Attending on this day also allows us to build in emergency days ('snow' days) during the year as noted below. As we researched surrounding elementary school districts, we learned that half are currently attending school on Veterans Day."

Calendar Highlights:

All Northfield schools continue to mirror District 225’s Winter Break (Friday, December 23, 2016 through Friday, January 6, 2017) and Spring Break (Monday, March 27, 2017 through Friday, March 31, 2017).

Eight half-day school improvement/institute days are included and are scheduled at the end of the week whenever possible. One notable exception is the half-day school improvement/institute day on the national election date of Tuesday, November 8. This exception facilitates traffic at each of our schools, which act as polling places within our communities.

Two emergency days (“snow” days) are built into the school year (Monday, February 20 & Monday, April 3), and five emergency days added in June as specified by Illinois School Code. The tentative last day of school is Friday, June 9, 2017.

The two built in emergency days noted above will be utilized to make up school if school is canceled prior to the emergency day (e.g. If school is canceled prior to Monday, February 20, 2017, school will be in session on that date.) Please plan on these days being attendance days, and note that building these into the school year helps decrease the likelihood that school cancellations due to weather will impact the tentative last day of school, which would push attendance into the week of Monday, June 12, 2017.

Sincerely,

Dr. Brian K. Wegley
Superintendent
